Usability of the new Admin Centre is awkward

We upgraded to 16.3.1 and are now looking at the new Admin Centre.

It is great that it is now accessible via the MDM webapp and has a great look. It also has great new features like the Server Dashboard and the Runtime Parameters.

However, the Orchestration holds all the functionalities the business users regularly use. Basically everything under ‘Workflows’.

This section is now further removed and looks very awkward. Especially in comparison to the slick new look of the rest. It is therefore harder to use which is not a great comfort. Given there are quite important commands that shouldn’t be done wrongly.

Will you be looking to improve the look and usability and move it back to a more prominent location?

Hello Barbora,

Thank you for taking the time to share this — it's really helpful to hear how the new Admin Center is landing with your team, and I'm glad the move into the MDM webapp, the Server Dashboard, and the Runtime Parameters are working well for you.

You're right that the Orchestration section doesn't yet match the look and feel of the rest of the Admin Center. This is largely because Orchestration is a separate component under the hood, so it hasn't been through the same redesign as the surrounding areas. We're aware of the visual inconsistency and don't consider it ideal.

That said, in terms of day-to-day use, the main change is one additional click to enter the Orchestration section. Once you're in, the Workflows experience stays very close to what your business users know from the previous version, so the underlying commands and behaviour are unchanged.

This approach also let us unify the permission model and remove the duality of having multiple admin centers — all in time for the v16 release. The main alternative we weighed was keeping a second, separate Admin Center interface for the Workflow & Online services alongside the new MDM Admin Center, which would have meant two places to manage and two permission models to maintain. Folding Orchestration in behind a single click felt like the better trade-off for users overall, even if the visual polish hasn't caught up yet.

What would help me most is understanding whether this is purely about look and feel, or whether you're running into any actual functional problems — anything that blocks a task, behaves unexpectedly, or makes a critical command harder to perform correctly. If there's a functional issue, I'd like to dig into it with you so we can factor it into the next round of improvements.

Thanks again for the detailed feedback.

Best regards,
Tomas Vytiska

Dear Tomas,

Many thanks for your extensive answer and explanation.

It is definitely beneficial to have it all in the one place. We have in the meantime also realised that we can save a link directly to the schedulers section, which alleviates the extra click.

We have not come across any technical or performance issues with this section so far. But will let you know if I do.

It really is more about the look and feel of it. It feels awkward and more unexperienced business users might wonder whether they are in the correct/official section.

Many thanks for caring about this.

Kind regards,

Barbara
