One Data on Hybrid Env

Hello Ataccama Community,

I'm currently managing a hybrid deployment of Ataccama ONE, where our Data Processing Engines (DPEs) are running on-premise while the rest of the platform is in the cloud. I've noticed that the ONE Data module is not available in this setup, and attempts to enable or use it result in errors or feature flags being disabled.

Could you please clarify:

  • Why is ONE Data not supported in environments running purely on hybrid DPEs (both cloud and on-premise)?

  • Is there a technical roadmap or timeline for when ONE Data will be available or fully functional in hybrid environments?

  • Are there any recommended workarounds or alternative approaches in the meantime for organizations that require hybrid deployment but also need ONE Data capabilities?

Thank you in advance for your insights!

Hello!

You are correct to say that ONE Data is not fully supported in a hybrid deployment.

Architecturally speaking, in cloud deployments, the database used by ONE Data sits in Ataccama’s cloud (in the same VPC as your main UI, etc). This means that if ONE Data is used, the data will exist in Ataccama’s cloud. For many customers this is fine, but this goes against the concept of your hybrid DPE, in which by design Ataccama does not hold any data, only results. (Your data is sent to the DPE in your cloud for processing, then the results are sent to our cloud to be displayed in the UI)

So what it means is that there is no best-practice world in which you would not allow Ataccama to hold your data by having a hybrid DPE, but then allow us to hold your data in ONE Data.

From a “fix” perspective, we are tracking feedback to enable not just hybrid processing, but hybrid storage. This would then allow the ONE Data database to sit in your cloud, and ONE Data then becomes suitable. However, our product team has made no commitment to this yet, and as such it is not on our roadmap. If you get in touch with your CSM, they will be able to attach you to this feedback. Please give them ticket reference PI-968.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news on this one!
